What is Urogynecology?

Urogynecology also known as Female Pelvic Medicine and Reconstructive Surgery is a subspecialty of Obstetrics and Gynecology and Urology. This field is now a jointly accredited specialty within the American Board of Obstetrics & Gynecology and Urology. Dr. Sujata Yavagal is one of the few physicians in the South Florida to be trained and board certified in this field.

The specialty of Urogynecology trains physicians to evaluate patients with pelvic floor disorders including urinary incontinence, overactive bladder, painful bladder and pelvic organ prolapse (dropping of the vagina, uterus, bladder, rectum). Dr. Yavagal completed three years of formal fellowship (additional training after residency) with focus on the surgical and non-surgical treatment of pelvic floor disorders.

What should I expect at my first appointment?

After check-in, you will be interviewed regarding your symptoms and history. A detailed examination will be performed by Dr. Yavagal to help reach a diagnosis and advise you of the treatment plan.
